After producing their figures using state-of-the-art 3D scanning technology, Assault Models returns to traditional 1/35 scale sculpting with the two US Army tank crewmen. This review covers the second figure of the pair, Tankman, US Army 2015 (AM35022)
, while the review of the first figure can be accessed here: link
The figure is packed in a plastic box which features an image of fully assembled figure. A zip-lock bag in the box contains 5 resin pieces:
- torso with legs,
- right arm,
- left arm,
- boom microphone.
Cast in grey resin, the pieces look really good. There are no air bubbles, seam lines or any other visible imperfections in the resin. The level of details is very impressive with the most impressive piece being tiny boom microphone… casting such a delicate piece in resin is an evidence of Assault Models aspiration to produce the best 1/35 scale figure sets on the market.
Cleaning the parts is very much a stress-free process. Although large, casting blocks are easily removed using a sharp pair of side cutters and Olfa precision cutting tools. A few passes with fine-grit sanding paper and the pieces are ready for assembly. I would advise being extra careful with the thin boom microphone… this piece can be damaged if manhandled.
The pieces fit really well and assembling the figure took just couple of minutes. A minimal putty work was required to make things perfect. I didn't attach the microphone to its designated place on the tanker helmet to facilitate the face painting process.
The figure represents US Army tank crewman wearing Nomex Combat Vehicle Crewman (CVC) coveralls and Improved Outer Tactical Vest (IOTV). The IOTV doesn't sport any equipment pouches, only the CVC helmet audio extension cable held in place by the grid of PALS webbing. Along with the CVC helmet the figure wears tanker boots with leather straps wrapped around the upper portion of the boot and ending in a buckle.
The anatomy of the figure looks good, with facial features well defined.
Assault Models recently offered two modern US Army tank crew figures in 1/35 scale. Tankman, US Army 2015 (AM35022) is a second figure of the pair. The figure parts are perfectly cast in resin and fit really well, facilitating figure assembly.
Altogether, US Army tankmen from Assault Models are both impressive figure kits and welcomed addition to the growing list of modern US armored vehicle kits in 1/35 scale.
