The Medium Tactical Vehicle Replacement or MTVR is a family of 6x6 7 ton vehicles being used by the United States Marine Corp. The Marines started taking delivery of the trucks from Oshkosh Defense in 1999, with approximately 11,350 delivered to date.
A new book from Tankograd provides some great references for this truck and it's variants.
Tankograd American Special No.3031 -
MTVR - Tactical Truck of the US Marines
This new book from Tankograd follows the standard they have used on previous publishings. The book, measuirng approximately 8" by 11.5", is printed on glossy paper with a soft cover. Inside, there is text, both in English and German, and plenty of great looking color pictures.
The book starts off with an introduction to the US Marine Corp and then a brief description on the requirements and acquisition of the MTVR. It then goes into a detailed description of the MTVR covering the engine, transmission, steering, electronics, and more. There is also a list of the many variants of the MTVR with a brief description of many of the different variants.
The following sections of the book are broken down into the different variants and provides a lot of good pictures of the vehicles. While it does look that most of the pictures were taken home side, with a lot in the green or MERC camouflage, there are a few that look to have been taken in theatre. All picture are aided with good descriptive text point out features of the vehicles.
The break down of the images sections is as follows:
- Prototypes and Other Developments
- Mk23 Cargo Truck/Mk23 Cargo Truck with Winch
- Mk27 Extended Bed(XL)/Mk28 Extended Bed(XL) with Winch
- Mk28C Extended Bed(XL) Chassis with Winch
- Mk29 Dump Truck/Mk30 Dump Truck with Winch
- Mk31 Tractor
- Mk37 Truck Cargo Resupply Vehicle HIMARS
- Trucks with Mine-Roller
Is should also be noted that each section does contain a small scale drawing providing dimensions of the variant.
For the fans of this vehicle, this is a great looking book from Tankograd covering the MRTV and it's variants. The book includes great information and images on this family of vehicles in use by the US Marines. The book should also provide a great modeling reference for those who wish to build any of the vehicles from the series. I would highly recommend this book.
